Comparative Account of the Otoliths of the Weakfishes (Cynoscion) of the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts of The United States

Otoliths from four species of fishes of the genus Cynoscion which are found in the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of U.S. are described. Otoliths of C. nebulosus are described in detail and specific differences with other species are observed. On the basis of the otolith structure these four species may be divided into two phyletic lines; one containing C. nothus and C. regalis, and the other comprised C. nebulosus and C. arenarius.
